By Appointment Only, uses procedures commonly found at security checkpoints, doctor offices, psychic readings, and therapy sessions to call attention to how these rituals play a part in our willingness to give up our rights to an alleged authority.

Performance Abstract: Patrons are given appointments upon entering the gallery. When the "client" arrives for their appointment, they are taken into a small dark office and asked to remove jewelry, belts, coat, scarves, shoes and everything in their pockets. Once sufficiently disrobed they are directed to enter an adjacent room for interrogation. They are then asked repeatedly, "Why are you here?" When the interrogator decides they have answered correctly, they are frisked and allowed to leave. The client returns to the first room to retrieve their belongings before returning to the gallery.
